Cockroach Infestations In The UK

Cockroaches are a globally recognised pest, with over 4000 species conquering a multitude of environments. They'll successfully live anywhere with a modest supply of food and water, which unfortunately makes the areas that we live ideal for roaches too. While not all cockroaches are pests and can actually play a positive role in the environment, there are 4 species that are considered pests in the UK

  • German Cockroach

  • American Cockroach

  • Brown Banded Cockroach

  • Oriental Cockroach

There is a variation in size and appearance between the 4 species, however they're all drawn to the same living conditions. Cockroaches can breed seriously quick too, laying between 16 and 40 eggs and reaching maturity quite early in their lifespan. In the right conditions, cockroaches can live for over 2 years. All facts considered, it's easy to see why infestations are a common issue.

Like many of the other pests that you could come across on your property, one of the biggest problems caused by cockroaches is the spread of harmful bacteria and viruses. Cockroaches spend a lot of time foraging in kitchens and dining areas, so they'll transfer dangerous micro-organisms onto utensils and surfaces that will come into contact with food. They'll also scatter their droppings on food surfaces, further increasing the spread of pathogens.

As nocturnal insects, cockroach activity can be hard to detect. If you have an infestation, you may spot their droppings. Depending on the availability of water, their faeces will take various forms. With ample water, you'll see small brown smears, and with limited water you'll spot solid, dark-brown cylinders.Another sign you may come across is their skins as young cockroaches will shed their skins to allow themselves to grow.

If you think there may be a cockroach infestation on your property, contact us for a top-to-bottom survey with a same or next day service. If an infestation is present, we'll use a toxic gel treatment to eliminate the pest problem. We'll follow this up to inspect the results and remove any remains.
